Pavel Berman and the Moscow virtuosi in Italy
i Virtuosi di Mosca in Italia
The violinist and conductor Pavel Berman will lead the Moscow Virtuosi on an important Italian tour, visiting Turin, Parma, Milan, and Modena between the 23rd and 29th April 2008. Berman will play two of the most important and famous violins of Antonio Stradivari: the ‘Maréchal Berthier, ex-Napoleon’ and the "Elizaveta Petrovna, Empress of Russia". The ‘Elizabeth Petrovna’ remains in a private collection and is not generally heard in public. The ‘Berthier, ex-Napoleon’ was played by some of the finest violinist of the past century, including Szeryng and Oistrakh, and is now owned by the Fondazione Pro Canale, Milan, an organisation dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of a collection of fine Italian instruments for loan to soloists, orchestral leaders and talented young musicians.
A programme has been devised to present the full potential of these important instruments.
The event in Turin will be preceded by a pre-concert talk where violin experts from the world of music will discuss the instruments, focusing on the preservation and promotion of these most important Italian cultural creations.
